Who Is The Mammoth?

The Mammoth is an experiment – a Pleistocene mammal resurrected from the Eurasian steppe into our modern world. He finds much worth exploring, but particularly the world of Hominid music.

The Mammoth is inquisitive, quick to judgement, and eager to opine on the sounds of the Holocene world. He doesn’t discriminate against any genre; indeed, he lives by the motto that every musical style has its virtues. It wouldn’t have become codified if it didn’t. It appeals to someone, even if it’s rare to find that appeal outside of a small, select group of people.

That said, of course he has some general tastes – to give you an idea of whether or not his curation would appeal to you, here is a brief overview, spoken in generalities:

  • He likes his hip hop conscious and thought-provoking
  • He likes his heavy metal slow, downtuned, and groovy
  • He likes his pop funky
  • He likes his electronic music wavy
  • He likes his rock bluesy and fuzzy

None of these are intended as absolutes, of course, just general personal tastes. As stated, the world of Hominid music is vast and exciting to explore. This site serves as an archive of his musings as he continues to investigate.

Neither will it necessarily be limited to music – that is simply the subject that has drawn his interest the most post-thawing. There is much to learn about human arts & culture.

He hopes you will enjoy reading his work here. He apologizes for the strange formatting – human keyboards require too much finesse for mammoth toes to make much work of them, so an aide writes his dictates down for him. He has requested the 3rd person phrasing, so as to distinguish his voice from the rare times his aide (referred to here as “The Admin” (hello)) may see fit to insert his own comments.

The Mammoth welcomes you to The Uprising. Fear not, no takeover of your human world is forthcoming, but it was a cool web domain for The Admin to reserve, and The Mammoth’s suggestion of “An intellectual exploration of the world of 21st century hominids” was deemed to clinical.
